Learning About How Parents Take Care of Their Offspring
As a part of our science unit on how animal parents help their offspring to survive, the students pretended that they were Emperor Penguins in Antarctica. They had to try to move around with their penguin egg or chick on their feet. We learned that the eggs won't hatch if they are on the ice for more than 2 minutes. The students also had penguin "tummies" which made it hard to see their feet! We were all amazed at how much work it took to take care of the egg and the chick.
The Gingerbread Man Engineering Challenge
The students were asked to design a boat or a raft that could get the gingerbread man across the river without getting wet using only straws and tape. Here are some of their designs:

Learning about Quotation Marks
We have been learning about quotation marks. One of the students in the class drew this picture to show that quotation marks look like the sound waves that we studied in science. The quotation marks, that look like sound waves, show that someone is speaking.
